The Best Chocolate Cream Pie

Chocolate Cream Pie is my favorite pie to make for the holidays. It is creamy, rich, flavorful, and far easier to make than it seems! This is one you will definitely need to add to your recipe book. Enjoy!

What You Need For Chocolate Cream Pie

Supplies Needed:
*9-inch pie pan
*Food processor
*Mixing bowls
*Whisk & wooden spoon
*Saucepan
*Stand Mixer with whisk attachment

*Oreos
*Butter
*Granulated sugar
*Whole milk
*Egg yolks
*Cornstarch
*Semi-sweet chocolate
*Vanilla ext.
*Heavy whipping cream
*Powdered sugar

Ingredients

  • 25 Oreos, crushed (plus more for topping)
  • 5 TBSP butter, melted

    For the filling:
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 2 TBSP cornstarch
  • 6 TBSP salted butter, chopped
  • 8 oz. semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla ext.

    For the whipped cream:
  • 2 cups cold heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla ext.

Steps

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Crush Oreos in food processor. Pour into mixing bowl, add melted butter, and stir to combine. Press crushed Oreos into 9-inch pie pan to form crust, then bake for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine milk and granulated sugar over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, whisking frequently.

In a separate bowl, add egg yolks and cornstarch and whisk until smooth.

Once the milk and sugar mixture is simmering, temper the eggs. Add 2-3 TBSPs of the heated milk & sugar mixture to the eggs & cornstarch to increase the temp. Slowly add the egg yolk mixture into the saucepan, whisking constantly. Bring to a gentle boil.

Remove from heat and add chopped butter, chocolate, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. Pour filling into cooled pie crust, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 4 hours or until filling is set.

For the whipped cream: pour heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract into chilled bowl of stand mixer. Add whisk attachment. Mix on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until stiff peaks form.

Spread whipped cream over set pie filling and top with crushed Oreos. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Enjoy!
